This article assumes that you have already setup your email account in cPanel. This article will use example usernames, passwords and the server names, they will be displayed in bold, make sure you replace them with your own variables. You should also have already determined if you would like to use POP3 or IMAP.
This article assumes you are using an existing installation and will go through the process of adding a new account. If you have a new installation you will automatically be taken to the new account screen.
This article was written for Thunderbird 2.0, but should apply to old versions. Getting to certain areas may be slightly different.
1. Go to Account Settings under Tools
2. Click Add Account
3. Select Email Account
4. Enter your Name (shows when you send email) and Email Address (as setup in cPanel)
5. Select either POP3 or IMAP and enter your incoming mail server.
6. Your username is the full email address you're trying to setup
7. Give your account a name
8. The initial setup is complete.
Note: Most ISP's are now blocking the default SMTP port (25), because of this you will likely have to follow the below steps.
9. Go to Outgoing Mail (SMTP) in Account Settings Click edit next to the mail server.
11. Change your outgoing port from 25 to 587.
12. Check off "Use name and password", the username should be the same as your incoming mail, the full email address.
You're finished! You can now start using your account. Keep in mind that we do not support Thunderbird beyond initial setup, check the manual for additional help.
