Setup email on iPhone/iPad

This article assumes that you have already setup your email account in cPanel. This article will use example usernames, passwords and the server names, they will be displayed in bold, make sure you replace them with your own variables. You should also have already determined if you would like to use POP3 or IMAP.

If you have a Mobile Me account you may want to forward your email to that account instead of setting up a POP3/IMAP account. Mobile Me uses push mail (instant delivery).

Setting up email on the iPhone/iPod Touch is very easy, although a little tedious because of the keyboard. It automatically detects if you can run SSL, if your ISP blocks port 25, etc.

1. Click on the settings icon

2. Click on Mail, Contacts, Calendars

3. Click Add Account...

4. Click Other

5. Fill out the initial account settings. The name can be anything you want it to be, usually your full name. The address would be the email address you've already setup in cPanel (in this example: steve.smith@bamboocrickethosting.com). Password should also match what you have entered in cPanel. Description is what will show up on the Mail screen on your iPhone. Click Save.

6. First, select either POP (for POP3) or IMAP

7. Fill out the Incoming and Outgoing mail server settings. These would generally be exactly the same, but you must fill both out as our server requires authentication for outgoing mail. In this example we have used server.bamboocrickethosting.com as the server name. You should use elvis.bamboocrickethosting.com as the iPhone tries to use SSL to connect. Click save. Your account will now connect as usual.

8. You're done! You can now access your email account using the Mail button.
