Setup email in Entourage

This article assumes that you have already setup your email account in cPanel. This article will use example usernames, passwords and the server names, they will be displayed in bold, make sure you replace them with your own variables. You should also have already determined if you would like to use POP3 or IMAP.

This article assumes you are using an existing installation and will go through the process of adding a new account. If you have a new installation you will automatically be taken to the new account screen.

This article was written for Entourage 2008 SP1, but should apply to old versions. Getting to certain areas may be slightly different.

1. Go to Account Settings under the Entourage menu

2. Click new and select "Mail..."

3. Enter the email address and click the next arrow. DO NOT checkoff the Exchange server option.

4. Next screen will just say it does not have our pre-configured options, click the next arrow.

5. You're now at the main configuration screen. Your email address and Account ID (aka username) should be exactly the same, the full email address. The password should be what you've assigned to the account in cPanel. Incoming and outgoing mail servers should both be mail.yourdomain.com. Finally, pick either POP(3) or IMAP from server type.

6. The next screen is to verify account settings, in most cases we would not recommend running these since you will need to make a few changes still. Next.

7. Give your account a name and click finish.

Note:  In most cases you're not done yet, the default settings will likely result in errors while sending mail. Most ISP's block port 25 (default SMTP port), so we should change the outgoing mail port, and enable authorization.

8. Back in the accounts screen, right click on the account name and click open account.

9. Click on "Click here for advanced sending options" under Sending mail

10. Override default SMTP port to 587 instead of 25. Enable "SMTP server requires authentication" and change it to "Use same settings as receiving mail server".

You're finished! You can now start using entourage for the email account. Please keep in mind that 3rd party mail apps are unsupported, if you require support for Entourage beyond setup, refer the manual or contact Microsoft.
