Setup email in Mail (for Mac)

This article assumes that you have already setup your email account in cPanel. This article will use example usernames, passwords and the server names, they will be displayed in bold, make sure you replace them with your own variables. You should also have already determined if you would like to use POP3 or IMAP.

This article assumes you are using an existing installation and will go through the process of adding a new account. If you have a new installation you will automatically be taken to the new account screen.

This article was written for Mail (for Mac) 3.5, but should apply to old versions. Getting to certain areas may be slightly different.

1. Go to "Add Account..." under the File menu

2. Enter your name (This is what shows when you send email), the email email address and the password you've assigned to the account.

3. Choose either POP(3) or IMAP from the account type. Give your account a description/name. Your incoming mail server is elvis.bamboocrickethosting.com. Your username should be the full email address, not just the beginning part. Your password should be carried over automatically. Continue. You may get a warning about certificates, this is because Mail tries to connect to SSL automatically, if you wish to use SSL you need to use the hostname of the server you're on.

4. Leave authentication as Password. Continue.

5. Setup outgoing mail the same way as incoming. Give it a description and assign the outgoing mail server ( elvis.bamboocrickethosting.com ). You must enable Authentication here. Use the same username and password as the incoming mail. Continue.

6. Again, leave authentication as Password. Continue.

7. This is the final screen of the initial setup, there is more to do though. Click create.

Note: The following steps allow you to get around ISP blocks of port 25. Most ISP's are now blocking outgoing email on the standard port (25). We run a secondary server to get around this. You should follow the directions below to avoid getting any errors.

8. Go to "Preferences" under the Mail menu

9. Select your new account on the left of the screen

10. Click on the Outgoing Mail Server dropdown and select "Edit Server List"

11. Select the SMTP server you just added and click on Advanced.

12. Change it to use a custom port of 465.

13. Finally check "Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) "

You're finished! Please note that Mac Mail is a 3rd party app and is not supported by Bamboo Cricket Hosting beyond setup. If you require support please refer to the manual or contact Apple.
