1. What is the difference between Hosting and a Domain Name?
When you register a domain name you are reserving the address which people go to, for example mydomain.com would be your domain which you register. Web Hosting is what your domain points to, it adds the actual functionality like email, website hosting, etc.
2. Do I need both, Hosting and a Domain Name?
It depends on what you want to do but in most cases the answer is yes. If you are just starting out, you will definitely need both, as the domain name gives you your name which people can access, and the hosting adds the functionality to the domain to make it accessible. If you are trying to do more simple things like adding a domain to an existing hosting package, you would only need to purchase a domain name. You could also reserve your domain name first and then add hosting later when you are ready to work with it.
3. How do I sign up for Hosting?
Go
here. Once you have decided on your hosting package, click to either order monthly or yearly. Once you have selected your hosting package it will appear in your cart. Before you checkout you will be asked to assign a domain name to your hosting package, either by registering a new domain or pointing an existing domain to use our hosting.
4. How do I register a Domain Name?Go
here. Search for the domain name you would like. You will be given many options, check the boxes for the domains you would like to purchase and click "purchase selected domains". Checkout using "proceed with purchase".
5. How long does setup take?
Typically you can expect your account to be setup within 5-10 minutes. It's possible for certain circumstances to delay the setup of an account such as insecure passwords or dedicated IP provisioning. Domain names can take up to 24 hours to propagate after registration. In most cases you can expect your account to be accessible within 1 business day.
6. What are your payment options?
We accept Visa and Mastercard payments which can be made either monthly or yearly. We also accept Cheque(check)/Money Order payments which can be made yearly. Sign-ups made with manual payment methods (cheques/money orders) will not be setup until we have received payment.
7. Can I host multiple domains on one hosting account?More information on this is available on our
hosting page. Check "Hosted Domains" to see how many domains can be hosted on each account.
8. Does my hosting include an email account?
Yes, all of our hosting packages come with 100+ traditional email accounts, as well as forwarders, auto-responders, webmail, spam filtering and other features. Email accounts can be checked with any standard email client using pop3, imap or webmail.
9. Can I setup my own email account easily?
Yes, setting up your email account is an easy two step process. The first is to setup the account on our server by
entering an account name and password in cpanel. The second part is setting up your account in your email client which depends on your client. We have a variety of setup articles for the most popular email clients,
available here.
10. Can I check my email through a browser?
Yes you can, we have a few clients to choose from. A modern webmail client called roundcube which uses the latest technology to make it act much like a desktop client would and a very reliable and simple client called squirrelmail.
11. What is ID Protect?
ID Protect is an add-on for domain names which protects you from things like identity theft, spam and data mining. Regulations require your domain name to have whois data which is accurate to your personal information. This whois information is available to anyone, and as a result your personal information is available to the general public. ID Protect uses 3rd party information to protect all of your information. Anyone who requests your information must go through the 3rd party without bypassing the required regulations.
12. Do I need ID Protect?
In our opinion most of our clients do not need it, however we give everyone the option since it has been requested on a regular basis. Business users definitely not need ID Protect since your personal information is most likely on your website regardless. If your domain is being used for yourself, then it is something you should strongly consider, especially if you have a popular website. Just ask yourself "Do I want everyone to have access to my address, phone number and email address?", if the answer is "no", then you should consider adding ID Protect when you purchase your domain.
13. What are SSL Certificates?
SSL Certificates are a way of signing a secure connection. It allows your users to authenticate that they are dealing with who they think they are. For example, if your user goes to www.yourdomain.com and your certificate is signed www.theirdomain.com, your user will get an error saying the certificate does not authenticate to the domain. The connection is still secure, but the user has to question weather or not they can trust you. Chances are they will not.
14. How do I order an SSL Certificate?
It is available either as an add-on when adding a hosting package to your cart or you can order it separately from
the hosting page. Instructions are available in our
support section for once you are done purchasing your certificate.
15. What is Wordpress and how much does it cost?
Wordpress is the arguably the best blog software available. It completely free and can be setup using our control panel in a matter of minutes.
16. How do I setup/install Wordpress?Installation instructions are available
here.
17. What are your terms of service? They are available
here. We have tried our best to keep them in plain english, if you have any questions let us know.
18. How do I cancel?
To cancel services you will need to submit a ticket under your billing name/email address. Let us know which parts of your account you wish to cancel (packages, domains, etc) and when you would like to cancel them (end of term, immediately).
If you currently have an invoice due your account will be canceled at the end of that term and that invoice is still due. Invoices are generated 5 days before they are due which gives our users a good opportunity to cancel their service if they have forgotten to do so in advance.
Allow at least 2 business days for us to process your cancellation, we will not be able to cancel accounts before an invoice is due if we are not given sufficient notice.
